A motorist died at the scene of a horror smash which left five other people in hospital.
Ten paramedic cars as well as ambulance and police helicopters were called to the two-car crash on Sunday night.
One driver was declared dead while passengers including a ten-year-old girl were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with a series of neck, leg and chest injuries.
Emergency services vehicles including seven ambulances, three cars and the air ambulance were sent to the B2104 Ersham Road, Hailsham, outside The World of Water superstore following the collision between a blue Hyundai and a black Peugeot at 7.15pm.
The driver of the Hyundai was declared dead at the scene while a helicopter airlifted a man in his twenties to the Royal Sussex with pelvic and leg injuries.
A ten-year-old girl who was struggling to breathe with suspected chest injuries and a man in his 70s were both hospitalised with injuries thought to have been caused by their seatbelts.
A woman in her 40s was also taken to hospital with abdomen and shoulder injuries while a man in his 30s suffered neck and hip injuries.
Firefighter crews from Hailsham and Herstmonceux were at the scene for more than 45 minutes.

Bill Bentley, who represents the area on East Sussex County Council, said the speed limit on the road had recently been reduced from 60mph to 40mph.
Coun Bentley said: “It has history in certain places along that road of accidents.”
He added that all motorists needed to be “mindful of the dangers of the road”.
Coun Bentley said: “We’re blessed with countryside that’s very enjoyable but we’re not well served with wide dual carriageways in East Sussex.
“People need to be aware of their environment particularly when on the move in our county.”
A Sussex Police spokesman said officers were called to a collision on the B2104 Ersham Road, Hailsham, between a blue Hyundai and a black Peugeot.
He added: “Unfortunately, the driver of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
“Passengers of the Hyundai and occupants of the Peugeot were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.”
Sussex Police are asking anybody who saw the vehicles before the collision or has any information to contact them on 101 quoting Operation Millbrook.
