Wayne Rooney’s actions on the pitch may be considered a gift from God.
Now a retired painter and decorator has taken a picture of the Manchester United player and transformed him into an angelic Renaissance masterpiece.
Robert Burns, 66, of Brighton – who has painted his entire house in the style of the Sistine Chapel – has used images from magazine covers and newspapers as his latest muse, transforming some of the best known faces in showbiz into renaissance-inspired works of art.
Among his most recent projects includes Russell Brand depicted as Jesus and Jose Mourinho as Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi.
The grandfather-of-three said: “I get inspired when I see a celebrity offering themselves in Renaissance pose.
“I don’t follow football but when I found out Jose Mourinho calls himself ‘The Special One’ I knew I had to do him next.
“He is photogenic. There was this photograph and I thought ‘he looks just like the Salvator Mundi photo’.
“Salvator Mundi means saviour of the world – I think it suits him very well.”
