A Brighton-based former model and TV presenter is looking to revive her career by stepping into the jungle.

Kemp Town mother-of-two Annabel Giles is strongly rumoured to be one of a dozen stars heading to Australia for the latest series of I’m a Celebrity.

The line-up isn’t officially announced by ITV until later in the week, but the 12 celebs have been named by several different publications.

For Miss Giles, it would mark the end of a two-year bid to get on the programme in an attempt to revive her career.

The 54-year-old, who was married to 80s pop star Midge Ure, has fallen on hard times of late.

She had previously written in a national newspaper that she was in thousands of pounds of debt and living on benefits in Brighton.

She wrote how she used to own 17 cars including a Porsche and an Aston Martin but now is reduced to just one old run-around.

In 2011, she feared that she might have to sell her property in Wyndham Street, Brighton, to pay for her son’s schooling.

Her son Ted suffers from a rare chromosome abnormality and Miss Giles was struggling to pay for his £10,000 a term schooling at a private school in Hampshire until a mystery benefactor stepped in.

Miss Giles has lived in Brighton for more than six years and gave up her career to look after her son.

In a blog she wrote in 2011 she said: “Now that he’s up and running and slightly more socially acceptable, I thought I’d go back to TV to earn the big money to pay for this damn school.

“I nearly got ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ last year; if I had, I’d be home and dry as it could have kick-started the old career and brought in the big bucks.

“Maybe this year…”

Should Miss Giles be confirmed this week she is expected to be joined in the jungle by scripted reality and pre-show favourite Joey Essex, Westlife singer Kian Egan of Westlife, snooker player Steve and Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington.

The show, which brought Brighton-born Katie Price and Peter Andre together in 2004 and made a national treasure of Copthorne-based Fatima Whitbread in 2011, will return to TV screens this Sunday.
