The Council’s Standard Panel will be adjudicating in Hove Town Hall on Thursday 28th November at 10am as to whether or not Cllr Dawn Barnett had breached the council’s code of conduct by bringing her office into disrepute when she said that a drinks coaster showing a golly wog was not racist.
The coaster was on sale in Bert’s Homestore in Brighton over the summer and Cllr Barnett made her comments to a local reporter in response to being told that shoppers had been complaining to the shop. It is not known if Cllr Barnett had ever seen the coaster, been in that shop in question or spoken to any of the shoppers who complained.
Full details will be available in the week before the meeting on 28th November.
