The already excited crowd were riled up further with an introduction of Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back In Town, then a somewhat surreal boyband-esque song about the Hawkins brothers.
Then, on the smoke-logged stage, emerged four figures, each with an incredible hairstyle silhouetted in the stage lights.
Grown men exploded with screams as the four-piece finally picked up their instruments and broke into the first song of a fierce set.
The show was split into two parts with “some Darkness stuff” first then the full Permission To Land album, in order, second.
The newly-toned and tattooed Justin was not short of charisma and showmanship. A new bobbed haircut and eccentric moustache were all that accompanied his frontless Lycra one-piece, which later became a black and white-striped outfit, as he transformed into a circus master.
“Get your clothes off,” screamed a love-struck woman in the sold-out crowd. “Actually, miss, this is a onesie,” responded a considered, eloquent and intelligent Justin. “So in fact it should be, ‘Take your clothe off’.”
The thrills and entertainment didn’t wane. Justin had a burly bouncer carry him through the crowds while perched on a stool still playing the electric guitar.
His talented brother Dan repeatedly wowed with his talents on the guitar. Zoolander lookalike with a wafro Frankie was mean on bass and drummer Ed Graham was relentless.
The exhausted crowds were only just able to muster the energy to scream for a seasonal encore. Thank the rock gods he’s out of rehab and back on the stage.
