Don’t love me for fun girl – the audience of women (and the occasional man) proved their commitment to Boyzone 20 years after their big break into the pop industry.
The BZ20 tour has been widely publicised as the boy band’s attempt to kick-start their career. But the performance proved to be more than a concert – it was a thank you to fans and a mourning of lost band member Stephen Gately.
After his death in October 2009 the loss of Stephen understandably deeply affected his “brothers” – with Keith breaking down on stage as the band members sat and raised a glass in Steo’s memory.
Ronan, Keith, Shane and Mikey each took their moment to thank the fans. The set was punctuated with filmed interviews with the group. While moving at first, it did start to tire.
Old hits including Picture Of You, Love Me For A Reason and the Comic Relief cover When The Going Gets Tough had the audience back on their feet, dancing and singing.
New hits proved popular – but only time will tell if they reap the same success.
