Does anyone else think decisions about our environment are made on the basis of sloppy reasoning?
When BSE was rampant we were told cattle would have the symptoms after 30 months. I should have thought animals would have been kept until past that age so we could be sure they didn't have it.
Instead, they were slaughtered for beef before that age.
Now people are talking about being carbon neutral, meaning the carbon they take from the atmosphere equals carbon they return to it.
As part of this, plants are being developed as fuel sources.
It seems to me there is a problem with this. If you didn't grow plants for fuel, wouldn't other plants grow in their place which would take up carbon which would not be re-released into the atmosphere?
