Your correspondent Simon Phillips (Letters, January 8) should be made aware that there is great value to be had on the buses in Brighton and Hove – and not just for regular commuters.

We recognise that it is important to offer fares to attract visitors to the city and encourage families to make their journeys by public transport.

Factor in the investment each year in new, environmentally-sound buses and a high-frequency network of services – 85% of customers use a bus service that offers a ten-minute frequency or better – and our family deals and other discounts start to look like great value for money.

A family day ticket providing city-wide travel for five people can be bought on the bus or on mobile phones for just £9.

And if travelling alone there is no need to pay more than £4 a day as suggested: with a mobile phone ticket, one day is just £3.90, two days £7 or three days £10.50.
