A driver died after his car collided with a taxi.
The accident happened between a Ford Escort travelling north on the A283 at Northchapel, near Petworth, and a black cab style taxi travelling south.
The 47-year-old Ford driver, who lived locally, was killed.
The taxi driver and four passengers had slight injuries and were taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.
The road between Northchapel and Shillinglee crossroads was closed for several hours while emergency services cleared the scene.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 7pm yesterday, to contact Sergeant Damian Merrifield at the Chichester traffic department on 0845 6070999.
