A bus driver has been suspended following allegations he racially abused a taxi driver in a road rage incident.
He was arrested for a public order offence and taken into police custody after the argument on Tisbury Road, Hove.
A 60-year-old passenger on the bus said the driver and the taxi driver had sounded their horns at each other after pulling off from traffic lights at The Drive.
Police were called after the taxi returned when the bus stopped near Hove Town Hall and the two drivers got into an altercation with each other. The passenger said other people on the bus made racist comments about the taxi driver, who they believed to be Turkish, but he did not hear any from the bus driver himself.
Other passengers were shocked when they heard the commotion between the two men.
Sussex Police have confirmed that they attended an incident involving a bus and a taxi between 8.46pm and 9.03pm on Friday night.
A spokesman said one man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
It is not known if the suspect will face charges.
Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company said a driver had been suspended while police investigate the incident.
Managing director Roger French said: "We are waiting for more information from the police."
