Albion fans packed the Withdean stadium on Saturday to cheer on their club and showed their true colours in a fantastic display of team scarves.
Scarf day was dreamt up by Seagulls fan Danny Last and backed by the club who gave a voucher to every adult ticket holder to redeem for a scarf at the club shop at Withdean.
The 34-year-old post office worker from Hove said the reason for the call to arms, or rather necks, was to inject some much-needed atmosphere at home games.
Albion's form has been markedly better when the team play away from home and some fans believe that is because the atmosphere is better away from Withdean.
The theory was to transfer that atmosphere to Brighton and get some much-needed league points.
It was also to ease the disappointment of the FA Cup defeat the previous weekend by West Ham.
Danny, who is a season ticket holder, launched his scarf appeal after speaking to friends who support German club Borussia Dortmund.
They made 3,000 flags for a Bundesliga fixture last year. It caught the imagination of fellow fans and created a colourful black and yellow scene on match day.
Alas, it was not to be for the Seagulls on Saturday at their first home match of the new year, losing 0-1 to Millwall in the League One fixture.
Millwall striker Darren Byfield's goal after 21 minutes, when he lobbed keeper Wayne Henderson, condemned them to a sixth successive defeat.
Yesterday Danny told The Argus: "It was an excellent day - apart from the result, which made it bitter sweet.
"The club was fantastic in giving out the scarves and it was an unbelievable sight. I was very proud until Millwall scored. Everyone's got a scarf now so hopefully they'll be bringing it to every game and it can continue.
"A great day, and a fantastic show of support from the fans. All that was needed was a goal."
