There were hundreds of mills all over Sussex a century ago, many of them on the Downs where they could catch the breeze.
One of these was in this painting by Robert Thorne-Waite, which was auctioned at Christie's in 1913.
It was sent in by local historian Peter Longstaff-Tyrrell, who says it has been identified as Berwick Mill, near Alfriston.
He adds that in the distance can be seen another mill, probably Windover, which has also long since gone from the Downs.
Mr Longstaff-Tyrrell is the author of several books on military history, Polegate and the Cuckmere Valley.
