Drivers have been warned to expect delays during three months of roadworks close to a busy commuter route.

Part of a slip road from the A27 at Falmer to the A270 Lewes Road towards Brighton will be closed for 12 weeks from Thursday.

The road will not be completely shut and drivers will still be able to follow their normal routes.

But motorists have been warned to drive carefully and slowly near the works and expect journeys to take longer than usual.

The road will be closed for Southern Water to build a sewer to serve new student accommodation at the University of Sussex.

Clive Massey, Southern Water's sewerage manager, said: "Access will be maintained to the A270 and local buildings and we are working with the Highways Agency to manage the traffic safely and to minimise disruption."
