I was as sceptical of Frank Gehry's work as many of the residents in Hove until, a couple years ago, I visited his extraordinary project for the University of Toledo School of Art in Ohio with my daughter.
It was breathtaking.
Mr Gehry and his team have such talent: the scale of the spaces, the flow, the natural lighting, the attention to details, the massing of components, the inspiration of the interior spaces is unlike any other I have been in.
He is the most talented of all designers because he cares deeply about how each project is perceived by occupants and visitors.
The effect of his work cannot be adequately experienced through drawings and/or models. It can only be fully appreciated when one walks through those glorious interior spaces and around the folded and/or curved planed exterior surfaces which appear kinetic in moving lighting conditions by day or night.
My daughter was so overwhelmed she changed her college major to architecture and interior design and has excelled in her studies.
I have Mr Gehry to thank for her happiness and the success she enjoyed in her college career.
He changed her entire world.
Before any final choice is made in approving any design, the decision-makers should visit and experience at first-hand one of Mr Gehry's projects.
Turning down his design would be one of the most monumental mistakes made in the history of your glorious land.
