AN HISTORIC town hall is celebrating a new lease of civic life today from noon.

Portslade Town Hall, which is more than 90 years old, will see Brighton and Hove mayor Brian Fitch declare the building open at midday.

Meeting rooms and facilities inside have been updated and equipped to serve the community and provide workspace for staff.

The Victoria Road housing office closed yesterday at 5pm and is being incorporated into the hall along with the Portslade Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The site of the old housing office is to be redeveloped for housing. The new housing office is open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

For information, email housing.customerservices@brighton-hove.gov.uk.

Officers from the policing team will be available to talk to people between 11am and 1pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

These hours will be trialled for the first three months.
