AN INTERNATIONAL airshow will mark the 50th anniversary of the Red Arrows with a special fireworks display.

The choreographed display at the climax of this year’s Airbourne: Eastbourne will feature the iconic red, white and blue colours as the Red Arrows celebrate their 50th season. The famous aerobatics team displayed at the first Airbourne in 1993 and will be back again to appear at all four days, from Thursday, August 14 to Sunday, August 17.

Councillor Carolyn Heaps, Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “We are thrilled to welcome back the Red Arrows for their 50th display season and even more delighted to host their displays on all four days of the fantastic airshow.

“Airbourne is such a strong family show and the crowds are always excited to see the incredible high precision flying of the Red Arrows amongst many of the other fantastic displays we hope to delight fans with.”

Other attractions include a military exhibition featuring the best of the RAF, Army and Royal Navy.

Fans can get a bird’s eye view of the flying from Beachy Head or take to the skies with a helicopter pleasure flight over the South Downs National Park.

Airbourne takes place above Eastbourne seafront and ground displays will be held on the Western Lawns over all four days.

Attractions run from 10am with live music until 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, followed by bandstand concerts each evening. Entrance is free.

The firework display will be at 10pm on Sunday evening.
