An interesting idea from the consultants, Urban Initiatives, to get rid of the infamous and littleloved Vogue Gyratory in Brighton (The Argus, January 9).

They and Labour councillor Sue John are right - it's an absolute nightmare to negotiate as a pedestrian.

It puts many people off cycling out to the universities and is a barrier to the regeneration of the area.

However, the biggest obstacle to improvement is the dangerously high level of traffic for which the gyratory was built to cater.

If we're serious about improving the area, traffic levels must be reduced. The building of the waste transfer facility in neighbouring Hollingdean will result in many more large lorries using the junction and will only serve to compound the current problems.
