I write to draw your attention to two unsatisfactory features of the league tables published in your newspaper (The Argus, January 11).

Firstly, the nature of the Department for Education and Skills' statistical requirements means the published figures for Lancing under-represent our pupils' achievement at GCSE level.

That is a matter over which neither you nor I have any control but it is important the point is understood.

Secondly, the figure of unauthorised absences which you published for us, and it would seem several other schools, is incorrect. The figure for Lancing should read 0.2 per cent rather than 20 per cent.
