In your rail fares article (The Argus, January 6), you failed to mention that if your train from Brighton arrives at its destination before 1000hours, the full fare from Brighton to Victoria is £35 return.

Two colleagues and I met in London just before Christmas and they paid £18 return from Rustington to Victoria as their train arrived at 1005hours. Mine arrived at 0945hours, so I paid almost double.

This week I paid £16 return for the 1237hours from Brighton to Farringdon.

Last November it was £13.60.

No service can justify any of the fares which we are charged. Once upon a time, the Government of the day hanged Dick Turpin for highway robbery, which is what the rail companies are committing on travellers.
