An elderly couple have become the latest victims of door-to-door conmen.
Bet and George Liggins, of Nesbitt Road, had about £175 stolen after a man came to their door pretending to sell cigarettes.
The thief knocked on the couple's door at about 7pm on Monday night.
He asked for a glass of water and while Mr Liggins fetched it for him, the man took a purse containing the cash.
The man told them he was the son of a couple who used to live nearby and knew the Liggins.
Mr Liggins, 73, said: "We've been left feeling pretty rough and unsure about opening the door to people."
Yesterday, The Argus reported that an elderly woman had her £25,000 lifesavings stolen by a gang of four men who police have linked to a string of similar crimes across Sussex.
Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070 999.
