Millions of pounds are being invested in improving the 10,000 sub-standard homes in Brighton and Hove.
Last week The Argus revealed one in ten privately owned or rented homes in the city fell below government standards of decency.
Yesterday the South East England Regional Assembly said it had already poured £367 million into tackling poorly maintained public and private homes and was investing a further £384 million between April 2006 and March this year.
Brighton and Hove City Council received the biggest share of the assembly's £3.5 million.
