Pro-Palestinian campaigners marched in condemnation against Israel’s military conflict with the Middle Eastern state.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) met at Brighton’s Clock Tower at 2pm on Saturday for a public protest against the “unbearable news” steaming from Gaza each day.
The protest saw scores of people carrying pro-Palestinian banners, flags and placards calling for the “freedom of the Palestinian people”.
Campaigners lay on the floor of Barclays bank in North Road in “blood-stained” sheets – a stunt which aimed to replicate dead bodies – in protest against claims Barclays’ invests in Israeli weapons manufacturers.
A member of the PSC said: “We also stopped outside Sainsbury’s, near Boots, in protest against the supermarket’s decision to still sell goods from illegal Israeli settlements. There’s a national pressure for Sainsbury’s to stop stocking the items as they make a big song and dance about their ethical trading policy – but are still happy to stock such items.” Sussex Police said 150 people protested peacefully and only one arrest was made for assault.
