Ambitious fly-tippers managed to get rid of their sofa by heaving it on top of a bus shelter.

The imaginative litter bugs managed to get the couch on top of the Brighton and Hove Buses bus stop in Valley Road, Portslade.

The offending sofa was spotted by a team of canvassers from the Labour Party on Saturday.

Peter Kyle, Labour parliamentary candidate for Hove, said "We knew fly-tipping was bad in the centre of town and because the problem has yet to be solved there, the idea of dumping on the street is spreading to other parts of the city.

“Although credit to the tippers in this case - at least they have thoughtfully not blocked the pavement."

Peter Atkinson, Labour council candidate for North Portslade said: "Fly-tipping in Portslade has formed more and more of the complaints I receive.

"I would advise anyone with big items to dispose of to contact the excellent Emmaus charity in the village."
