ROAD works on Brighton seafront may have taken a step towards completion today.

At first Brighton and Hove City Council said work to repair the collapsed A259 would not be completed until November.

But today the majority of bollards and signage has been moved allowing drivers to use lanes in both directions, according to hoteliers.

A spokesman from Umi Hotel said work positioned outside its door seemed to have been completed.

He said: “Some bollards and signs are still there but traffic is moving in both directions, I can see lorries and cars going past now.

“There still seems to be one part of the road, opposite the Odeon, which looks like work might still be carried out.”

A spokeswoman from the Queen’s Hotel, said it seemed sewage works being carried out by Southern Water, by Black Lion Street, were still ongoing.

The works were originally estimated to be completed in eight weeks after a support above a fire escape in the Fortune of War pub, in the Kings Road Arches, collapsed in April.

The Argus is awaiting a response from Brighton and Hove City Council.
