Carers for a disabled poet have marked her 60th birthday by having 60 of her poems published.

Janice Smith, above right, has overcome being born with cerebral palsy and severe difficulties in speaking by becoming a poet penning more than 1,000 poems about her life.

To celebrate her 60th birthday, the CSV LifeLines charity which supports Janice at Patching Lodge in Park Street, Brighton, helped her to have 60 poems printed.

Volunteer Jane Platford, above left, worked with Janice to select 60 poems and had them professionally printed by Brighton’s 4 Print and Design Shop.

She said: “It was a privilege working with Janice.

“Her poems are both funny and happy, sad and moving, and always full of interesting insights into her life – not to mention her love of the Bee Gees.”

Janice will have a Bee Gees- themed 60th birthday party at the Brighton Hilton Hotel today.
