RAVING and healthy living wouldn’t be the first thing you put together but that’s the plan for two clubbing veterans.

But the rave entrepreneurs are planning to put on their white gloves, get out the glowsticks and pull a safe world of clubbing out of the (big fish, little fish) cardboard box.

They hope to offer the euphoric highs of 90s rave scene without drink or drugs.

Instead their revellers will be throwing shapes with nutritional goodies such as raw chocolate, freshly squeezed juices, mocktails and exotic special teas at the electronic dance music event.

Jullian Preston-Powers, 49, and Pete Shepherd, 36, launch a night called Natural Selecta at Intenso Espresso Bar in Portland Road on Saturday .

The pair, with years of clubbing behind them, wanted to offer something different to the norm and think their formula could eventually work for parents and their children.

Mr Preston-Powers, who has travelled around but now lives near Hove Park and has four children, said: “We are trying to create something safe and different to what there is at the moment, which is people just getting drunk and throwing up on the pavement.

“Some of my most incredible memories were with techno and house music.

“We want to take that back but without risking our bodies.

“You can feel the euphoria of the music without drugs.”

Saturday’s nightclub experience will also include therapists offering talks, workshops and free taster sessions.

He said: “It’s a big change from clubbing to the whole health thing.

“It’s a valid transition but we think it could go global.”

Their ethos is to create a “sustainable alternative to social interaction” in a nightclub context where people can experience and enjoy an alcohol- and drug-free party.

The music they offer up is “sub-heavy down tempo funk”, house and “nu-disco” for the ex-90s rave generation.

The first 20 guests get free entry, a piece of raw chocolate and a CD mixed by Mr Shepherd.

A freelance nutritionist by day, he said: “I always wanted to do something like this.

“It was the right time and right luck when I met Jullian.”

The event follows a pre-work rave Morning Gloryville set up in the city earlier this year.
