They say that time waits for no man and it seems that some men, and women, don’t want to wait for time.
Almost 13,000 speeding motorists were caught out by speed cameras as two years of roadworks were carried out along the A23 between Warninglid and Handcross including one repeat offender caught out an astonishing 15 times.
Having driven along that stretch regularly, I witnessed all manner of odd behaviour, with the late brakers who would insist on doing 80mph right up and into the temporary 40mph zone, motorists who would prepare for the zone two miles in advance by slowing down to 40mph and probably most dangerous of all, the drivers who slammed on the brakes when they saw the average speed cameras.
Everyone has their own idiosyncratic driving style, and most believe theirs is the right and proper way to drive.
Hopefully now that the works are complete, motorists will be able to glide through the new three-lane section at a safe speed without any strange quirks or tics.
