Police are seeking a hooded man who robbed a woman of her mobile phone in a Hove street.

At about 2am on Saturday (November 1) the 26-year old victim was walking along Somerhill Road, Hove, when she was approached by a man wearing a white pillow case over his head.

He demanded her mobile phone and bag, which she handed over together with a bottle of wine in a carrier bag.

The suspect was holding a pair of kitchen scissors but these were not used against the victim and she was not physically harmed.

The suspect made off on foot and was last seen in the Furze Hill area where it is believed he removed the head covering, which was later found nearby. He is described as white, slim, in his late teens, and 5'4" to 5'5".

A spokesman for Sussex Police described the head covering as having "rough holes cut out for eyes and a mouth drawn on in pen. The manner in which it was being worn was reminiscent of a Ku-Klux Klan head covering with the corner of the pillow case fashioned into a point."

Detective Sergeant Chris Lane said; "This was in the early hours just after Halloween evening so many people would have been out in fancy dress.

"However we appeal to anyone who saw this particular man in the area of Furze Hill or St Ann's Well Gardens to get in touch. Similarly if a friend or family member left the house in possession of such an item, please contact us.
