FLATS were severely damaged in a blaze yesterday afternoon.

A score of firefighters fought to tackle flames from two apartments in Greenwood Court, Broadfield, near Crawley, at around 3pm.

No-one was injured but one flat has 15% fire damage and ten per cent smoke damage and the second has 25% fire damage and 15% by smoke, according to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

There were six fire engines called to the scene, a score of high pressure hoses were used, three ladders had to be used so 14 firefighters could enter the building.

The crews stayed at the scene until 7pm and the cause is believed to be accidental.
