After strutting on stage in a fabulous sixties-style white dress and stiletto combo, Paloma Faith belted out a few of her trademark power notes and then yelled, “Come on Brighton, it’s Friday night!”

And with that she flicked her head of glorious blonde curls and gestured for everyone to get on their feet. This was a command which the audience gladly obliged and gleefully danced away to her unique vocals and jazzy backing band for the rest of the evening.

Paloma completely skipped over her previous two albums and played a set largely consisting of her 2014 release, A Perfect Contradiction, which was complemented with a handful of lively new songs.

For people expecting a full-blown funk-pop party, they were not disappointed. The highlight being Can’t Rely on You, with which she closed the show.

Her voice was as soulful live as on record and even when combined with athletic dance moves the singer did not falter a note. Her band included a pianist, brass section and fantastic backing vocalists.

The evening was a winning combination of rare talent, an energetic atmosphere and utterly dance-able songs.
