I Work along Portland Road where everything is either permit parking or pay to stay for four hours.

Neither of these I am able to do due to my long hours.

The closest places to park are Bolsover Road and the flats in the road next to it.

I went up Bolsover Road the other day to find the residents have created their own ‘resident parking permits’ and have started leaving notes on people’s vehicles – some quite aggressive ones as well.

I’ve spoken to people I work with and have been warned about parking up that road.

Why? Peoples cars have been keyed, tyres slashed, residents shouting at them not to park up there etc.

I did research and found that a few years ago there was a residents’ vote as to whether or not Bolsover Road should be a permit restricted zone. Those residents said no. This means that if there is a space, anyone can park there. They made that decision.

I see the annoyance in it. I live near a school and have to battle every day to get a space where a lot of parents are doing the school run.

But I don’t complain because I know that I need to park down other people’s roads so I expect others need to do so as well.

What I want to say to the residents of Bolsover Road is: can you grow up?

I’m sure the majority of you have children or work in areas that require you to park on streets, taking up other people’s spaces.

So why is your road so special that you feel the need to attack those who need to park there?

I for one will continue to park down that street as it's the only place available to me.

And if any of the lovely residents want to make themselves known before they attempt to key my car or give me dirty looks while walking down the road again, I would love to have a face to face conversation with them as to why they feel they can act like children over parking spaces.
