Four people were taken to hospital following a two-car collision near to Brighton and Hove Albion's Amex Stadium.

The two vehicles collided at the bottom end of The Drove and the start of Falmer Road in Woodingdean at about 10.30.

The road was closed in both directions while the fire services cleared a fuel spillage.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "Four people were released from the vehicles by our crew. We left at 11.14am."

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "A road has been closed near the Amex Stadium after two cars collided on Tuesday morning.

"The Drove was closed at the junction with Park Street at Falmer and the Bexhill Road junction at Woodingdean after the two cars collided at 10.06am.

"Four people were in the two cars and they have been taken to hospital for treatment. It is not clear at this time as to the extent of their injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"A 30-40' section of road has been affected by fuel or engine fluid spillages and will need attending to before the road re-opens. It is hoped that this will be by early afternoon."

A spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “We sent four ambulances and two cars to the incident. Four people were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

"When they were transported they all needed neck collars and were put on long boards because of potential injuries

“One woman in her 80s suffered from neck pain and a woman in her 50s suffered pelvic and abdominal pain, but there were no life-threatening injuries.”
