It is usually good to see an artist challenge the audience, and step out from their norm.

Beardyman has built a career from his unique blend of high energy and incredibly complex beat boxing delivered with an almost stand-up delivery.

His set was the complete opposite of this.

After a brilliant support act from JFB – the two time world DMC scratching competition winner – Beardyman came out to a very expectant audience.

He created a drum and bass set with a keyboard, his voice and very complex set-up of what looked like the combined computer force of NASA.

It was undeniably impressive, but too much time was spent with his head down looking at his equipment and in his own world.

The dialogue between himself and the audience was almost non-existent and when it did come, it was to tell us that he was “tripping out” on acid.

Overall, it seemed complacent, and the gig only came alive at the end when JFB took to the stage with Beardyman to combine their skills expertly.

It was a slap in the face to an audience that paid to see an hour and a half of this, not 10 minutes at the end.
