FOOTBALLERS used pedal power to help bring some festive cheer to a shopping centre.
Players from Burgess Hill Town Football Club visited the Market Place shopping centre in the town and climbed aboard a stationary exercise bike to help light up the centre’s Christmas tree on Saturday.
The bike is hooked up to a generator which makes the tree lights twinkle.
Players Darren Budd, Pat Harding, Josh Green and Paul Woods climbed aboard the bike as onlookers cheered them on.
Shoppers also got to ride on the bike and see how bright they could light the tree.
Chris Goldfinch, centre manager, said they wanted to “showcase the importance of sustainability”.
The centre aims to recycle 90% of its general waste and all of their lighting has been replaced by LED units to cut energy consumption along with plans to introduce solar panels.
