A MAN has been arrested after a violent attack in the street.

Police have questioned a 22-year-old Brighton man on suspicion of assault and he has been released on bail until January 21 after the incident on November 21.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a 30-year-old Hove man walked through Meeting House Lane, in The Lanes, Brighton, shortly after midnight.

The attacker ran off when a member of the public heard the assault and shouted, police said.

The victim had cuts and bruising on his head and face and wounds on his ear that needed stitches.

Police spoke to businesses and residents and looked at CCTV footage to try and identify the attacker.

Detective Constable Aaron Halsey said: "This was a particularly violent attack and as a result the victim sustained serious injuries.”
