Your article (Argus, December 2) on a hit and run at Ladies Mile Road/Mackie Avenue reveals the problems with this busy junction.
It’s one of the few junctions in Brighton which has stop signs despite these two collisions in as many days.
It’s a complex and difficult junction. Many of the sight lines are obscured by hedges and parked cars.
Motorists also have to anticipate pedestrians crossing Winfield Avenue where there is no pedestrian crossing.
All these uncertainties add to all road users’ complex stay or go decisions at this junction.
A cheap road engineering solution would be for the area around all Patcham's schools and residential areas to be uniformly 20mph.
But at the moment the application of 20mph in Patcham and Hollingbury is piecemeal.
I hope that these two accidents will spur a decision to apply 20 mph around all schools and residential streets throughout Patcham and Hollingbury.
The last 20mph consultation was very closely balanced and areas were cherry picked.
Surely the time is right for the Argus to promote road safety and start to advocate 20mph for all residential roads in Patcham and Hollingbury.
