CABINET must think long and hard before making cuts to bus services across East Sussex.

The motion at East Sussex County Council’s meeting of the full council showed the clear opposition to the proposal both politically and also publically.

There is no doubt the local authority will make huge savings if they scrap the dozens of services as planned.

However, it will leave many residents isolated and unable to get out – especially elderly people.

For most of us it is difficult to imagine how much of a lifeline a local bus service can be.

Cuts have to be made, but cabinet members must consider clearly the impact on the residents they serve before any measures are voted through.
