CREATIVE charity workers are inviting people to a knitting event in aid of survivors of sexual violence.

Volunteers at Survivors’ Network in Brighton are launching ‘Survivors Knitwork’ – a project that aims to bring together survivors of sexual violence, their supporters and the community.

Groups across the country will be hosting knitting events throughout 2015, concluding with an art installation in January 2016.

Tomorrow Survivors Network in Brighton is welcoming people to its ‘Casting On’ event at its drop-in centre in Pavilion Buildings between 11am and 2pm for a knitting session.

People of all knitting abilities are welcome and staff will provide knitting needles and wool.

Fabia Bates, director of Survivors’ Network, said: “For many survivors the idea of being put in a situation where they have to talk can be enormously pressurised.

"The opportunity to come together in a supportive atmosphere, doing something practical and creative, can be a crucial first step in their healing journey.”
