AN annual festive fundraiser has been launched at a shopping centre.

Churchill Square, Brighton, is supporting the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice for the fifth year running.

A Christmas tree, located on the lower mall, will be covered in gift tags containing Christmas wishes from children who use the services at the hospice, which is based near Arundel.

Between now and Christmas, shoppers are invited to select a gift tag from the tree and buy an extra gift for one of the children cared for by the hospice.

The tree was officially opened by Brighton and Hove mayor Brian Fitch and hospice patron Ambrose Harcourt.

Father Christmas and his elves were also present.

Mr Harcourt said: “We hope customers will come along and help us beat last year's total of more than 300 presents bought.

“It’s wonderful to be able to bring a smile to the children’s faces through this lovely project.”

Hospice community fundraiser Louise Collins said: “We would like to thank Churchill Square once again for all their support.

“Last year the wonderful shoppers donated gifts worth an estimated £3,156.

“Since 2010 1,284 presents have been donated with a value of more than £13,000.”
