AN appeal has been launched for more blood donors to come forward as the countdown to Christmas begins.
NHS Blood and Transplant in Brighton and Hove is preparing for a challenging time – with Christmas shopping, extended public holidays and celebrations all meaning giving blood can slip off to-do lists.
At least 2,200 donations are needed in the city to ensure life-saving supplies over the busy festive period.
Laura Scott from Haywards Heath was admitted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton in 2013 when she started bleeding heavily 30 weeks into her pregnancy.
She was given 22 units of blood after her son Henry, now 16 months, was born.
Ms Scott said: “I can never thank blood donors enough and really feel the need to do something in return.”
