Homelessness figures across Brighton and Hove are up.

The city is famed for having some of the best services and facilities available to the homeless in the UK. We should take pride in being a city that has a caring, kind and considerate reputation.

But if 60% of those living on the streets come from outside Brighton and Hove it is understandable that some people believe having such an array of resources is part of the problem.

It is not as simple as that though. To hear there are people living in tents while still struggling to hold down a full time job breaks down the stereotypes and is simply heartbreaking.

The city is setting an example by helping these people to get back on their feet with the work of great people like those at the Brighton Housing Trust.

People like their chief executive Andy Winter have the knowledge of the situation required to find solutions. But we all need to make sure they are listened to.
