FRIENDS and family of a teenager who died after a car crash are asking Albion fans to join them in a minute’s applause to celebrate his life.

Alex Jackson, 19, died after a collision near Brighton Racecourse last week.

The crash also left his girlfriend and one of his friends in a life-threatening condition.

A JustGiving internet page for people to make donations in his memory was set-up on Wednesday.

Now his friend Marc Gorry is calling for fellow Albion fans to join him in a minute’s applause in the 18th minute of Albion’s game against Millwall on December 12.

He posted online: “We would like to celebrate Alex Jackson’s life by having a minute’s applause at Brighton and Hove Albion’s next home game against Millwall.

“Brighton have agreed to this. Please either come along to the game and show your support or share this post.”

Albion In The Community coach Martin Schooley used to coach Alex during football sessions. Alex had been a regular member of Albion In The Community’s Kicks project which provides free football and sporting opportunities for young people in Sussex.

Mr Schooley said: “Alex was a respectful, considerate and responsible lad with an impish sense of humour.

“He was an intelligent footballer with a huge passion for football, and was equally popular amongst staff and peers. He will be sorely missed.

“The minute’s applause will be a touching gesture to remember Alex.”

Alex, a former City College student who worked at Poundstretcher in London Road, was “beloved” by his friends.

They took to Twitter to show their support for the minute’s applause – and are hoping Albion fans will join Alex’s family in commemorating his life at the game.

Keir Standing wrote: “Glad they’re paying their respects. Miss our boy Alex, all the times at Wellesley and back at school. RIP Alex.”

He added: “Gonna be emotional for all of us and everyone that knew him at the game.”

This week it was revealed that doctors at the Royal Sussex County Hospital have already been able to use Alex's organs, including his liver, kidneys and pancreas, to save four people.

And Alex's family are already raising money in his memory for the hospital which fought to save him.
