Two rough sleepers have each been jailed for 40 months after pleading guilty to a violent robbery.
Jamie Bryanton, 27, and Wayne Wennington, 43, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery at Chichester Crown Court and were sentenced on Friday.
The court heard that in the early hours of November 22 the victim, a 39-year-old homeless man, went to the underground car park in Chapel Street, Chichester, where the two men were sleeping rough.
He asked to join them and an argument escalated with the victim being assaulted and his mobile phone stolen.
DC David Midgley said: "The victim suffered some nasty injuries - cuts, bruising and he lost a tooth - but thanks to his quick actions in reporting this, officers were able to make arrests and search and find the stolen phone.
“The sentence reflects the tough stance the justice system takes towards such acts of violence".
