Protesters are fighting on to save the Brighton Hippodrome despite the latest blow to their campaign.

Up to 300 Our Brighton Hippodrome and Save Our Hippodrome campaigners protested outside Brighton and Hove City Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The committee agreed plans to convert the historic venue into a cinema and restaurant complex in July.

Protesters have vowed to continue their fight even after the council confirmed they had signed off the planning consent for the £18 million conversion.

Performer Paul Zenon said: “We believe the committee had no right to sign off the planning consent on the basis that certain information had been withheld from them.

“The council has consistently ignored the very clear wishes of the people of Brighton and Hove and they still keep repeating that the signing off of its destruction is an irreversible decision.

“We beg to differ and will not give up.”
