Police have charged Oliver John Parsons, 30, of no fixed address, with the murder of Joe Lewis at Warwick Mount, Montague Street, Brighton, on Thursday (Christmas Day).
He appeared before Brighton magistrates at 10am today (Saturday).
He has been remanded in custody until Monday, when he will appear before Guildford Crown Court via video link from HMP Lewes.
Emergency services were called to a report of a man being stabbed in a flat at 1am on Christmas morning.
The 24-year-old victim, Joe Lewis, was from Rustington.
A post mortem examination has revealed that Mr Lewis died from a stab wound to the heart. The results of toxicology tests are still awaited.
