A motorist was killed when his car left the road and collided with a tree this morning.
The man, who was driving a Land Rover Defender, was pronounced dead at the scene in Furnace Lane, near Horam, at 7am.
Temperatures of around minus two degrees centigrade and sheet ice hampered the approach of emergency services, including the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
Furnace Lane has been closed beyond its junction with the A267 at Sharp's Corner.
Motorists are still being advised to beware of icy conditions.Anyone who saw what happened or who has information is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Parksbury.
UPDATE: The driver has now been named as Uckfield butcher and dad to a four week old baby girl Daniel Osborne.
