A reverend who served her congregation for more than a decade has hung up her robes.

Reverend June Terry retired from the Uckfield ministry team on Tuesday. She preached at the celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany at the Holy Cross Church for the past 14 years.

She said: “I have made many friends and will miss the warmth and acceptance of the people.

“Coming from Hemel Hempstead as a lay reader in the church to being a warden of St Saviours sheltered housing, I had no idea I would be a priest.

“Being able to go into people’s homes, sharing Holy Communion, visiting the hospital – all of these situations have helped me to feel part of Uckfield.”

A special reception for the reverend was held after her final service, during which she was thanked for her contribution to the church and for her efforts in the town.
