I have just returned from Australia, where I did a house swap with an Australian couple (which I thoroughly recommend).
They enjoyed staying in Brighton but were appalled at the abuse of our grass verges, where inconsiderate people park on them or drive over them unnecessarily, leaving a muddy quagmire.
I was interested that the visitors referred to them as ‘nature strips’. I wonder if this term would encourage us to view them differently and look after them more.
