As a lifelong Labour voter and believer in social justice, I am writing to register my utter disgust at the scandalous behaviour of the Labour councillors over the recent schools admissions proposal and to confirm I will never again lend them my support.

The decision to replace Julie McCaffery at the eleventh hour, because she refused to follow orders to support the proposals, is an absolute disgrace and an affront to democracy itself.

Indeed, it makes it quite clear there was never any intention on the part of the council to have a fair and transparent debate, as when the vote wasn't going their way, councillors quickly "removed" their own "open-minded"

representative and replaced her with a more submissive "yes" person.

This primed latecomer had not even been present when all the arguments had been put forward so how was she able to reach a fair conclusion?

The idea the propsals will lend themselves to a fairer system with choice for all children city-wide is laughable. There is no choice, there is only the luck of a lottery.

As a mother with three children, no car and no local state school within walking distance, I will conceivably have a daily struggle to reach an infant, a junior and a secondary school in different parts of the city for 9am.
