Although we’ve had a unitary authority here for a while, I’ve yet to see a combined coat-of-arms and motto.
Brighton, I seem to remember, featured dolphins and In Deo Fidemas, while Hove had Floreat Hova.
Probably now the sea is too polluted for dolphins to visit and Hove is devoid of flowers.
Perhaps a combined one could show a rotting West pier and a floundering swimmer gesturing to a seagull with the superscription for the combined towns of ‘Sink damn you’ to signal rising sea levels and to strike the irreligious note appropriate to the country’s most pagan city.
Another omission – Hove is apparently twinned with a French village, Brighton with nothing.
To curtail the search for a missing twin, perhaps I could suggest Havana (a capital of ballet).
I would be prepared to sacrifice a few weeks of my time for a goodwill visit – expenses paid, naturally.
